Birthday Cards with a Personal Touch

Ms. Shelley's 9th and 10th grade English classes have taken on a very big project for the 2009-2010 school term. They design, print, and deliver personal brithday cards to the students at LHS. First, Ms. Shelley identifies the students who are having a birthday. Using the computer, the students design the cards and then print the cards on special paper using a color printer. In the morning, the cards go to Mr. Gurley, LHS principal, who personally signs each card. The students then fold the cards and address the envelopes. With a list from Ms. Shelley and the guidance of Ms. Frankie Holland, the students personally deliver the birthday cards.

LORIS HIGH SCHOOL 2009 TEACHER OF THE YEAR Ms. Mia State |

|
My name is Mia State and I am the Loris High School teacher of the year. This is my second year at Loris High and my fourth year teaching Physical Science. I have a B.S in Biology from Francis Marion University and an M.Ed in Secondary Education from Grand Canyon University. I am a firm believer that all children can learn and that it is the duty of the teacher to ensure that children are being provided with the |
| best education possible. My favorite quote is from the Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. It states " The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character - that is the goal of true education." |
